Nick Saban discusses Alabama’s preparation for Ole Miss’ other QB, John Rhys Plumlee

Under Lane Kiffin, Ole Miss QB Matt Corral is off to a hot start. The redshirt sophomore leads the SEC in completion percentage (76.7) and has already passed for 715 yards, 7 touchdowns and just one interception.
Corral is the starter, but Nick Saban’s Alabama Crimson Tide will still prepare for two Rebels quarterbacks. At his most recent press conference, Saban was asked about preparing for John Rhys Plumlee, who Kiffin has used at multiple positions this season.
“Well, I think you have to respect the guy because he’s such a good athlete,” said Saban, “but he also played quarterback a lot last year and he’s very capable of throwing the ball so you can’t really say he’s just a Wildcat guy when he’s playing quarterback. They use him as a wide receiver. They use him as a running back. We’ve just got to categorize him relative to what he’s playing and try to play the plays, and he’s a very capable guy and very good athlete.
“But we have to respect his ability to throw the ball because when we played against him last year and he was very effective as a passer as well as, you know, very athletic and very fast as a quarterback. So we have to respect that.”
Last season against the Crimson Tide, Plumlee rushed 25 times for 109 yards and a touchdown in 59-31 loss for the Rebels.
