Nick Saban is aware of how dangerous Jarquez Hunter can be.

Saban broke down how to stop the Auburn running back at Wednesday’s presser ahead of the Iron Bowl.

It comes down to adjusting to the formations and motions that Auburn runs with Hunter. Saban credited Hunter for being a physical presence and noted that he’s going to be a tough guy to bring down come Saturday.

It’s a little bit of what I just said about staying in the right places and adjusting correctly to the formations and motions and adjustments and unbalanced and all that kind of stuff,” said Saban. “But this guy runs hard. He’s physical. He’s hard to tackle.”

To slow Hunter you have to have good tackling, which is a staple of any defense. Limiting Hunter’s yards after contact is a big key for Saban.

“Good tackling is really important in playing good defense anytime, so being gap sound, everybody doing their job and playing disciplined, responsibility football and doing a good job of tackling but getting more than one guy to the ball so we can clean up the tackles and not let this guy get yards after contact.” said Saban.

Alabama hasn’t lost to Auburn since 2019. This year’s game will be at Jordan-Hare Stadium Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET on CBS.
