Nick Saban explains where he’s seen improvement from QB Bryce Young this spring

The Alabama Crimson Tide are in the middle of spring practices as they work toward defending their 2020 title.
They’ll have to do so with a number of new key players, including at the quarterback position, where Bryce Young is the favorite to take over as starter for Mac Jones.
On Tuesday night, coach Nick Saban said he’s seen a lot of improvement from Young this spring (via 247Sports):
“I think everybody’s made a lot of improvement. Bryce has made a lot of improvement. I think he’s a lot more confident. I think I’ve talked about this before, that we wanted to play Bryce a lot more than he got to play last year. I think the situation, the circumstances, playing 10 SEC games and being in the SEC Championship Game and the playoffs, probably didn’t get as much chance to do that as we’ve done in the past with developing quarterbacks. But I think just having all the reps that he had last year, he’s much more confident. I think he’s doing very well.”
As Saban said, a team in the middle of a title hunt doesn’t necessarily have time to get its backups work that often. But, Young did see some time last year.
Now, we’ll see how he progresses ahead of Week 1 of the 2021 season.
