Nick Saban explains why Hugh Freeze is ‘one of the most successful offensive coaches’ in CFB
Nick Saban has had trouble with Hugh Freeze in the past.
Saban spoke at his final press conference of the regular season on Wednesday. Saban called Freeze one of the most successful coaches in doing well with what’s given in terms of the personnel.
Freeze is one of the rare few that has beaten Saban in consecutive seasons during 2014-2015 while at Ole Miss. Freeze has a 2-3 record all-time against Saban.
What Freeze does is give the defense a lot of multiples to create problems.
“To me, he’s one of the most successful offensive coaches in the country in terms of taking the personnel and the players he has and doing what he needs to do to help them be successful,” said Saban. “They present a lot of multiples that give you problems to try and stay gap sound against the run and they’ve done a good job all year with it.”
Alabama will need to be sharp defensively. Saban said that it’s hard to prepare for a Freeze-run offense.
“So, our players are going to have to be zeroed in on making the adjustments that we need to make, and I’m sure we’ll probably see something different in the game than what we practiced,” said Saban. “But I think Hugh’s one of the best, most difficult preparations that we have when we play against his offenses.”
Freeze will get his first look at Alabama since his Ole Miss days on Saturday.
