Alabama needed a big second half from Jalen Milroe if it wanted to get past Tennessee on Saturday.

The Tide got exactly that as Milroe had a huge second half to lead Alabama to a second-half comeback and win over the Vols.

For Milroe, it was just a matter of settling in and figuring out how the defense was playing. Nick Saban broke down what Milroe did to improve in the second half against the Vols.

“He missed a couple reads in the first half on the runs, but he did a much better job in the second half,” Saban said in his postgame press conference. “I think you gotta get a feel for how the guy’s playing you. It’s a little bit like, if you are playing point guard and the guy’s slumping off, shoot a 3. If he’s guarding you close drive around him. But when you’re reading defensive end on some of this stuff, I think you got to get a feel for it. Once that happened in the game he did a really good job and he made some really key runs.”

Milroe finished the game with 220 yards and a pair of touchdowns. His big second half, combined with a shutdown performance from the defense, gave the Tide a signature win over the Vols.

Now Alabama gets a bye week to relax before preparing for LSU to start out the November slate.
