Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide held on for a narrow 24-20 victory over Texas A&M on Saturday night.

They did so without leading tackler Jaylen Moody, a fifth-year linebacker who has 33 tackles so far this year. Redshirt freshman Deontae Lawson filled in for Moody.

After the game, Saban revealed why Moody missed Saturday’s game, saying he’s dealing with a kidney situation (via Rivals.com):

“Moody had a bruised kidney,” Saban said. “Until he clears, which he’s gradually doing that — we thought it would happen more quickly than it did, but it hasn’t. Hopefully, he’ll be back.”

Lawson made 5 tackles against the Aggies, earning praise from his coach:

“I thought Deontae did a pretty good job out there, actually,” Saban said. “He’s a good player, and we have a lot of confidence in him.”

We’ll see if Moody can return for the big Tennessee game next weekend. But, for now, it seems Saban and his staff have a lot of confidence in Lawson’s abilities.
