Nick Saban flips the script, delivers interview of ‘Coach Paul Finebaum’

Nick Saban is still working on his broadcasting skills, using a recent interview with Paul Finebaum to work on his chops as an interviewer.

With Finebaum trying to get Saban’s thoughts on a number of topics, the retired head coach turned things around and said he was going to ask some questions of “coach Finebaum.” The SEC Network host let it slide and offered up some chuckles in response.

After a bit of back-and-forth, Finebaum was ready to admit something to Saban. He admitted the head coach was not always easy to interview, but Saban countered by reminding Finebaum he is not easy to coach.

“I don’t know if I’m allowed to ask a question — by the way, if I can reveal it now, you weren’t the easiest interviewer,” cracked Finebaum.

“Well let me just tell you, you remember the first time you came to Alabama and I tried to teach you how to play defensive back? You’re not the easiest guy to coach, either,” Saban responded.

“I am only 7 national championships behind you, but the day is young,” Finebaum said.

Once the two settled down, Finebaum did get the chance to ask Saban about his thoughts on the current state of college athletics. While Saban went in-depth on multiple topics, he admitted he is encouraged by some of the recent events.

“I am actually encouraged by what people are trying to get done and how people are listening. I think there’s a lot of positive things happening around here,” said Saban.

As for his interviewing skills, Saban could us a little work, but that is all in good time. After shining at the NFL Draft, he’s lined up to become a fan favorite during College GameDay in the fall.

Speaking of GameDay, ESPN announced on Tuesday that the popular pre-game show will be live from College Station in Week 1. The show will be on hand for Notre Dame vs. Texas A&M as the Aggies officially welcome in the Mike Elko era.
