Nick Saban was pleased with Alabama’s first fall practice Friday, but he wants to see his team finish strong.
“I thought today’s practice was really, really good, aight,” Saban said. “But every individual, just about, out there hit their breaking point at some point in time.”
Alabama’s head coach also singled out three freshmen in the secondary who are already impressing.
“I’m very encouraged by the young players,” Saban said. “I like all three young corners that we have. Patrick (Surtain), Josh Jobe and Jalen Armour-Davis those guys are all really what we’re looking for at that position. Eddie Smith is a young safety takes a little longer to develop at safety. So, how those guys develop will go a long way in determining what kind of depth we can develop in the back end.”
Surtain (Ft. Lauderdale, Fl.) was the nation’s No. 1 overall CB, and Alabama wrestled him away from LSU at the last minute. Jobe (Cheshire, Ct.) was ranked as the nation’s No. 14 overall CB in the nation, while Armour-Davis (Mobile, Al.) was a 4-star prospect and ranked as the nation’s No. 13 overall CB.
Of course, Saban is a DBs coach at heart; so, it’s only natural that he spends the most time with those players. However, to get singled out by your head coach on the first day has to be a great feeling and a nice omen for playing time as freshmen.
