Nick Saban has had gnats on his mind this week. First from his “Hey Coach” radio show on Thursday, and then on Saturday with a perfect old man compliment of Arkansas QB KJ Jefferson.
Jefferson routinely receives compliments from SEC coaches each week, especially about his size, but the Alabama coach offered a new twist. Jefferson is listed at 6-foot-3 and 247 yards, but often appears bigger. Jefferson was 14-for-24 passing for 150 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also rushed for 26 yards on 14 carries.
“This is not the kind of team that you all think they are, they’re a good team, and that quarterback is a handful. I mean when a quarterback can take a major college football player and sling him off like a gnat on a fly’s ass, a gnat on a cow’s ass,” Saban said. “That was one of the most impressive plays I’ve ever seen a player make.”
Alabama escaped with a 24-21 victory on Saturday after Alabama QB Jalen Milroe passed for 2 touchdowns and rushed for another. The Crimson Tide remained perfect in the SEC after they blew most of an 18-point third-quarter lead before they got a big final drive to keep Jefferson and the Razorbacks offense off the field at the end.
Alabama coach Nick Saban spoke highly of Arkansas and KJ Jefferson after the Tide’s win Saturday. The coach seemed particularly impressed by one play from Jefferson during the second half.
