Ahead of a huge early season matchup against Texas, Alabama is hoping to have 2 key defensive backs available on Saturday.

Malachi Moore and Jalen Key both went down with injuries in Alabama’s season opener against Middle Tennessee last Saturday. Both injuries appeared to have been minor and the pair likely won’t miss significant time.

But whether or not they’ll be available for this Saturday is still up in the air. Alabama head coach Nick Saban offered the best update he could at the moment, but it is seeming like it will be a decision made closer to game time.

“They’re able to practice, just how much they’re able to practice and how close to 100% they’re able to get by game time will need to be a question that we’ll have to answer,” Saban said during the SEC coaches teleconference Wednesday. “That probably is not something we can comment on until we get to that point.”

Last season at UAB, Moore had 31 tackles on the year. Key had 60 tackles and 3 interceptions for Alabama last year.

Having the two back for the Tide’s matchup against Texas would be huge. Alabama is looking for a signature win early that would do wonders in helping the Tide get back to the College Football Playoff.

Alabama and Texas kickoff at 7 p.m. ET on Saturday.
