Nick Saban knows all about SEC Media Days. Well, the legendary head coach thought he knew everything about the event ahead of Monday’s kickoff in Dallas.
As a longtime head coach with stops at LSU and Alabama, Saban was a staple at SEC Media Days over the year, but the special treatment he experienced as a coach is no more. During Monday’s broadcast of ESPN’s “Get Up,” Saban revealed he never needed his credentials to get into the event as a coach, but he had to return to his room Monday morning to grab his media credentials before he was granted access.
SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey also began his introductory comments with a crack about Saban being denied access before obtaining his credentials.
“It’s a little different. I’ve never worn a credential in my life and was always for 17 years able to get into SEC Media Day without a credential,” said Saban. “I had to go back to the room today and get my credential to get in. So that’s one of the biggest changes I see is it’s not like it used to be.”
