Nick Saban reportedly exploring possibility of reuniting with former DL coach Travis Jones
Alabama is taking its time to replace former defensive line coach Karl Dunbar, who left the program to coach the Steelers defensive line. The opening on Nick Saban’s staff has drawn several candidates, but the Alabama coach could wind up giving the job to a coach he’s known for quite some time.
According to Matt Zenitz of AL.com, Saban is expected to interview Travis Jones for the position. Jones worked as the defensive line coach for the Seattle Seahawks in 2017. He was not retained by the club following five years in Seattle. Jones also served five years in New Orleans as the Saints DL coach.
More importantly for Alabama, Jones was the defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator at LSU from 2003-04 under Saban and followed his head coach to Miami in 2005. Jones has been in the NFL ever since. Jones played at Georgia and was a team captian his senior season.
Considering Jones is looking for a job at the same time Alabama has an opening, the timing seems perfect for a reunion in Tuscaloosa.
