Not too long ago, Alabama and Florida State were among the programs to play in the first College Football Playoff (2014 season). The past two seasons, however, the Crimson Tide and Seminoles have had very different seasons. Saban’s squad went 27-2 over the 2017-18 campaigns while FSU’s record over the same period is just 12-13.

OL Landon Dickerson was a Seminole from 2016-18. The Noles were a strong 10-3 in Dickerson’s freshman season. At Nick Saban’s Thursday post-practice press conference, the Alabama coach noted that Dickerson brings a unique perspective to the team having experienced both successful and disappointing seasons at FSU.

“I think he has a unique perspective coming from someplace that maybe…” Saban started before taking a noticeably long pause. The Crimson Tide head coach appeared to chose his words carefully wanting to avoid being bluntly harsh on the proud ACC program.

“…the players didn’t have it quite as good as they have it around here,” Saban said when he resumed speaking. “And I hope our players really understand what they have, the opportunities that they have and that their focus is really in the right place, which is on our team being good.”

As far as how Dickerson is doing in camp, Saban shared a positive assessment.

“I think Landon Dickerson has done a really good job,” Saban said. “He’s really tough. He’s a very physical player. Very smart.”

Dickerson is just one reason Saban is optimistic about Alabama’s offensive line heading into 2019.

“I like the two tackles we have. … We have four or five guys that can play inside that have done really well. Without naming specific players, I think we can have a really good offensive line.”
