Nick Saban has a big challenge ahead of him against LSU on Saturday.

The Tigers got the best of Alabama last year, winning a narrow overtime game.

Heading into this year’s game, Saban knows that shutting down LSU starts on the defensive end. The Tigers have had one of the best offenses in the country this season and they have one of the best quarterbacks in the nation.

“They’re the No. 1 offensive team in the country, and it starts with Jayden Daniels,” Saban said in his press conference Monday. “This guy’s a phenomenal player, he’s a dual-threat player, he’s a great passer, he makes lots of plays with his feet, he’s fast. Not only can he scramble to run, he can scramble to throw.”

Daniels led LSU to a win last year and he’s looking to do the same this year. Saban knows his team will have to find a way to shut Daniels down.

“He killed us last year,” Saban said. “The guy was a really good player last year, he’s a really good player now. I think overall, they execute their offenses to perfection, and it starts with him because he makes the right reads relative to runs and passes and zone option plays and pass down plays.”

Saban is looking for his team to play disciplined football on Saturday. Alabama has slipped up in that regard several times this year, but they can’t afford to do that on Saturday.

“It’s going to be very challenging for us to be able to play the kind of disciplined football that you need to be able to play,” Saban said. “And not make mistakes and tackle well in the game and be physical to try and win on the line of scrimmage, which is going to be challenging.”
