When Nick Saban talks, the sports media listens. That was the case during Monday’s SEC teleconference, where Saban talked about his team’s progress through spring.
Saban on freshman RB Najee Harris:
“Najee had a great spring. He’s going to be a really really good player. His experience in the spring will be beneficial to him. When he has the ball in his hands, he’s a pretty effective player.”
On this team coming out of the spring
“I don’t think we’re an elite team yet, probably adequate. I don’t think we ever have an elite team coming out of spring”
On potential new redshirt rule:
“I would be in favor of that. They can’t play at all, but they all want to (as freshmen). It would help their development. It would help some of the other players on your team. The No. 1 thing, it would help the development of the younger players.”
On graduate transfer rule:
“I don’t think we should have free agency in our league. The rule we had that players couldn’t transfer within the league was a good rule.”
On freshmen expected to arrive this summer:
“Our assumption is that everyone has made the progress they need to qualify.”
