Nick Saban is reportedly planning on adding a former NFL head coach to his Alabama staff for the 2023 season.
According to Matt Zenitz with On3 Sports, Saban and the Crimson Tide are expected to add Ken Whisenhunt to the staff in an off-field role. Whisenhunt last served in an on-field coaching role as the offensive coordinator for the San Diego/Los Angeles Charges from 2016-19.
Most recently, Whisenhunt has been an offensive analyst for James Franklin at Penn State since 2021. He previously had head coaching stints in the NFL with the Arizona Cardinals and Tennessee Titans.
As a head coach, Whisenhunt compiled a 48-71 overall record but led the Cardinals to a pair of NFC West titles and one Super Bowl appearance. Arizona would lose Super Bowl XLIII to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
It’s unclear what exactly Whisenhunt’s role would be for Alabama, but he certainly brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the table for Saban and the program.
