Alabama will begin preparations for the College Football Playoff in earnest on Thursday as it returns to the practice fields. Fifteen days later, the Crimson Tide will face Cincinnati at the Cotton Bowl with a trip to Jan. 10’s national championship game on the line.

The Tide hope that cornerbacks Josh Jobe and Jalyn Armour-Davis have a part to play in the game. Jobe, who had foot surgery, saw his chances of playing in the game placed in serious jeopardy, while Armour-Davis has been battling a hip injury and missed both the Iron Bowl against Auburn and the SEC Championship against Georgia.

“I don’t know what Jalyn Armour-Davis’ status will be, how much he will be able to do in practice, where he will be physically,” head coach Nick Saban said on Wednesday. “I know he wants to try to play in the game.

“Josh Jobe has played with a turf toe all year long. It got to the point where it was very difficult for him to be able to practice and be able to play. So he is very doubtful for the game.”

Jobe, who has recorded 38 tackles, 2 interceptions, and 4 passes defensed, is projected as a possible 1st-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. Armour-Davis has totaled 30 tackles and 3 interceptions.
