Alabama star linebacker Will Anderson sustained a knee injury in the Crimson Tide’s 48-14 win over Mercer last Saturday.

After the game, Tide coach Nick Saban expressed concern about the severity of the injury, but over the course of the last few days the prognosis for Anderson has steadily improved.

On Wednesday during the weekly SEC coaches teleconference, Saban offered an update on his star linebacker with Saturday’s huge game at No. 11 Florida looming.

“Will did practice yesterday,” Saban said. “We’re taking it by day by day. If he continues to make improvement through the rest of the week, he certainly could play in the game.”

Anderson, a 6-4, 243-pound sophomore, was selected to the All-SEC freshman team a year ago after recording 52 tackles, 10.5 tackles for losses, and 7 sacks.

Coming out of high school, the Hampton, Georgia, native was rated as a 5-star prospect and the 17th-best player in the 2020 recruiting class by the 247Sports composite.
