Nico Iamaleava and the Tennessee Volunteers are kicking off their 2024 season against the FCS Chattanooga Mocs on Saturday.

To say the game started out well for the Vols would be an understatement. Iamaleava started out a perfect 10-for-10 for 159 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Dylan Sampson got the Vols on the board first, rushing for a TD on the team’s first possession. Just a few minutes later, the Vols had the ball again and Iamaleava found his tight end Ethan Davis for another score.

After another quick possession by the Mocs, Iamaleava had the ball once again. On the 3rd drive, Iamaleava found transfer receiver Chris Brazzell for a big gain. Then, the star QB found Dont’e Thornton Jr. for a score, putting the Vols up 21-0.

Iamaleava has also rushed once for 5 yards and the Tennessee offense has had zero problem moving the ball. It should be noted that this is happening against FCS competition, but it’s impressive nonetheless considering Iamaleava looks like a seasoned vet in just his 2nd career start.

The Vols look to be in control of this one early and will look to roll to an easy Week 1 victory. After this matchup, the Vols need to prepare for the NC State Wolfpack, which struggled heavily against Western Carolina on Thursday.

Iamaleava’s first real test may be next weekend, but it’s hard to ask for a better start to the season.
