Eight teams entered Saturday ranked in the Associated Press Top 25 and undefeated. That number is now down to seven.
No. 20 Cincinnati is now 6-1 on the season after falling 24-17 at Temple in overtime.
The Owls, coached by former Mississippi State and Florida defensive coordinator Geoff Collins, did not post a particularly pretty box score in the upset bid. Cincinnati had more first downs (20-16). Total yardage was relatively close (317-311 in Temple’s favor). And both teams lost three turnovers.
But when it mattered most, Temple was able to pull through. In overtime, Cincinnati got backed up to third-and-36. Bearcats QB Desmond Ridder’s pass was intercepted by Shaun Bradley to complete the upset.
Voters were not particularly high on Cincinnati and it is unclear if the Bearcats will remain ranked after suffering their first loss.
These are the seven remaining undefeated teams in the AP poll:
- No. 1 Alabama (7-0)
- No. 2 Ohio State (7-0)
- No. 3 Clemson (6-0)
- No. 4 Notre Dame (7-0)
- No. 10 UCF (6-0)
- No. 16 NC State (5-0)
- No. 21 USF (6-0)
