North Carolina has secured its place in the College World Series.

The Tar Heels swept West Virginia in the Chapel Hill Super Regional this weekend. With the win, UNC will now head to Omaha for the first time since 2018.

Carolina’s 2-1 victory in Game 2 came down to the final play of the game. UNC was winning by 1 run in the 9th inning when the Mountaineers loaded the bases with 2 outs. The Tar Heels were able to get out of the jam with a weak ground ball to first base.

Here’s a replay of the final play of the game and UNC’s ensuing celebration:

Carolina joins conference foes Florida State and Virginia as teams who have already clinched spots in the College World Series. Two more ACC teams, NC State and Clemson, are also still alive in the Super Regional round and could earn spots in Omaha this weekend.

If all 5 ACC teams do reach Omaha, it would set a new record for College World Series participants from one conference. The SEC also still has 5 teams remaining in the Super Regional round entering Sunday’s slate of games.

North Carolina is currently +550 to win the College World Series, according to the latest odds from FanDuel.
