Nyck Harbor ices South Carolina’s win over Virginia Tech with 64-yard TD catch
Nyck Harbor got behind the Virginia Tech defense and that was basically it.
LaNorris Sellers had a clean pocket, and so the Hokies had no chance when Sellers lofted a beautiful touchdown pass to Harbor that put things to bed for No. 13 South Carolina in a 24-11 victory over Virginia Tech on a neutral field in Atlanta.
The 64-yard touchdown connection with 7:42 left got the Gamecocks out of harm’s way, with the Hokies previously hanging around and only down 17-11 into the fourth quarter. That all changed with one wonderful pass by Sellers, who is looking to follow up a breakout redshirt freshman campaign last fall with the same flair in his sophomore season.
Sellers threw for 209 yards in the win and added a 15-yard rushing touchdown in the first quarter that got South Carolina going.
Back to that game-clinching touchdown, though, with Harbor hauling in the pass that finished up his stellar afternoon in Atlanta. The junior from Washington led the Gamecocks with 3 catches for 99 yards, with that touchdown pass as the highlight-reel play that put South Carolina over the top.
There was still plenty of time left when Harbor scored his touchdown, but momentum was all with the Gamecocks, and they finished off the 24-11 victory in style, intercepting Virginia Tech with less than 5 minutes to go.
