One official from Saturday’s crew handling the Texas vs. Alabama game had to be removed from action in the second half.

The umpire — Stan Weihe — was removed from the third quarter after taking a massive hint during play. That collision came on a punt by Alabama with players from both sides running downfield to cover the kick.

Weihe appeared to be okay overall but was helped to his feet and eventually had to be replaced by an alternate official. While coming off the field, Weihe’s right cheek was visibly bloodied on the broadcast but he was conscious and moving under his own power.

It is not unheard of for officials to take hard hits with players flying all over the field on any given play. Hopefully, Weihe checks out all clear and is able to return to action soon.
