Ohio State dismisses football players facing rape, kidnapping charges

Ohio State coach Ryan Day did not wait long to address serious charges against two Buckeyes players. Hours after senior defensive backs Amir Riep and Jahsen Wint were arrested Wednesday morning on rape and kidnapping charges, Day announced that both players are off the team.
OSU had previously announced Riep and Wint were suspended from all team activities. Prominent coaches everywhere weigh whether to suspend and wait for the legal process to play out or dismiss a player facing serious charges/accusations. Day explained he is disappointed with the players’ conduct and is not waiting to see how the legal process plays out.
“I have dismissed Amir Riep and Jahsen Wint from our football program,” Day said. “I am not making any statement on the criminal charges, but it is clear they did not live up to our standards and my expectations.”
The alleged victim recounted having consensual sex with Riep before Wint entered the room. The woman claims Wint asked to join and eventually ended up raping her with the help of Riep. The two players are roommates.
Ripe, an Ohio native, played in 37 games during his OSU career while Wint, a native of New York, made 35 appearances for the Buckeyes.
