Oklahoma basketball earned a big-time commitment for the 2023-24 season on Wednesday afternoon.

Siena guard transfer Javian McCollum committed to the Sooners over Nebraska and other programs. McCollum averaged 15.9 points per game last season.

Here’s his announcement:

It was a breakout sophomore campaign for McCollum, who was also efficient with his chances. He shot 43% from the floor and 35.6% from 3-point range.

At 6-foot-1, McCollum will be a candidate to start at point guard for Oklahoma next season. He joins a back court that also includes rising sophomore guard Milos Uzan. McCollum averaged 3.9 assists per contest last season.

McCollum is Oklahoma’s first transfer commitment of this cycle. The Sooners are expected to be active in the portal over the coming weeks, as they have lost the majority of their team this offseason. Tanner Groves, Grant Sherfield, Joe Bamisile, Jacob Groves and Bijan Cortes are amongst the players who have departed.

Oklahoma will be looking to make the NCAA Tournament for the 1st time under Porter Moser next season.
