Oklahoma has earned a commitment from Windsor (Colo.) High offensive lineman Deacon Schmitt.
On Saturday, the 6-foot-5, 320-pound interior lineman announced his college commitment during a live ceremony at his school. He picked Oklahoma over Alabama and Colorado, giving the Sooners a head-to-head win over Deion Sanders and the Buffs for the state’s top-ranked recruit.
Schmitt visited the Sooners earlier this month, a week after taking an official visit to Tuscaloosa to see the Crimson Tide. He had been a priority target for OU and line coach Bill Bedenbaugh for well over a year, with Oklahoma offering him a scholarship last June, several months before the hometown Buffaloes.
He’s a 4-star recruit in the industry-generated Composite. Schmitt ranks as the No. 1 prospect from the state of Colorado and the No. 31 interior offensive lineman. In the national player rankings, he sits at No. 371 overall.
Schmitt can line up at tackle. His tape shows a clip of him pulling and serving as a lead blocker out in space. He plays with an edge and just manhandles smaller defenders. Schmitt might have the footwork to play tackle at the power conference level, and Bedenbaugh will have some options to work with when it comes to fitting him into future Sooner offensive lines.
Schmitt’s public pledge gives the Sooners 14 known commitments in the 2026 class. The group ranks 36th nationally and features 5 Composite 4-star prospects.

Derek Peterson does a bit of everything, not unlike Taysom Hill. He has covered Oklahoma, Nebraska, the Pac-12, and now delivers CFB-wide content.
