Oklahoma picked up a big-time commitment in the class of 2024 on Friday evening.
Njigel Smith, a 4-star defensive end from Texas, announced his pledge to the Sooners. He chose OU over offers from programs such as Texas A&M, Penn State and Ohio State.

Smith is a significant pickup for the Sooners and an elite prospect nationally. He’s the No. 83 overall player and the No. 12 defensive lineman in the country, per 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s also the No. 16 player from the state of Texas.
Smith attends Melissa High School in Melissa, Texas. He’s listed at 6-foot-5, 260 pounds.
He made his official visit to Norman back in June. He also took trips to Columbus, College Station and State College prior to making this decision.
Oklahoma now has 23 commits in the class of 2024. The group sits at No. 8 nationally, per 247Sports Composite rankings.
