Oklahoma has received a commitment from Los Alamitos (Calif.) High tight end Davon Mitchell.

The 2025 prospect revealed his verbal pledge on his Instagram page on Saturday, selecting the Sooners over Texas, Alabama, Texas A&M, and Miami. He also announced that he’ll be reclassifying from the 2025 class to the 2024 class and enrolling at OU a year earlier than expected.

Mitchell is a 6-foot-5, 245-pound tight end prospect who has already been selected to participate in the Under Armour All-America Game. As a sophomore playing for Allen High School in Texas, he was a Texas District 5-6A first-team selection and a MaxPreps first-team All American. He caught 33 balls for 731 yards and 9 touchdowns.

That production earned him 5-star status in the industry-generated 247 Composite. Among his 2025 peers, he was ranked as the No. 1 prospect from the state of California and the No. 2 tight end in the class. Overall, he’s the 16th-ranked recruit in the national player rankings.

He’ll be re-ranked at a later time now that he has joined the 2024 class.

Either way, it’s a huge get for the Sooners, who now hold 12 known commitments in the 2024 class. Mitchell joins 4-star Zion Kearney, 4-star Ivan Carreon, 3-star KJ Daniels, and 3-star Dozie Ezukanma as pass-catchers in the group. You can see his highlight tape below, via Hudl:
