Jason Witten was one of the best tight ends in NFL history. His son hopes to carve out a successful football career of his own, a journey that will take him to the University of Oklahoma.

Cooper Witten, a linebacker in the class of 2027, committed to the Sooners on Tuesday. Witten is the 14th player of the recruiting cycle to pledge to Oklahoma, which has the top-ranked class in the country according to 247Sports.

Wittem committed to Oklahoma over Georgia, Texas A&M, and his father’s former program, Tennessee, as those three schools emerged as his other finalists. But it probably shouldn’t be surprising that he picked Oklahoma after the elder Witten was named the Sooners’ tight ends coach in January.

Regardless, it’s a big addition for the Sooners as they add one of the country’s most celebrated recruits. Cooper Witten is ranked No. 25 nationally according to 247Sports’ Composite and is considered the No. 2 linebacker in his class. With his father as his head coach at Liberty Christian, his team won back-to-back state private school championships in 2023 and 2024 after going 2-8 in 2021, Witten’s first year.

Below, you can take a look at Cooper Witten’s high school highlights from Hudl:
