Oklahoma landed another big defensive recruit Thursday evening.

Eli Bowen, a 3-star in 247Sports Composite rankings, picked the Sooners over his home state of Texas. Bowen is the younger brother of 2023 4-star safety Peyton Bowen, who will suit up for the Sooners this season.

“I try to live by the motto family over everything & OU feels like home,” Bowen told On3 Sports’ Hayes Fawcet.

Bowen is considered the No. 37 cornerback in Texas and the No. 74 cornerback in the nation according to 247Sports. Small in stature, standing a 5-foot-9, 160 pounds, Bowen makes up for it with his speed and is sure to have an impact for the Sooners.

Oklahoma is coming off a shaky 6-7 season that ended with a loss to Florida State in the Cheez-It Bowl. The Sooners are looking for an improvement year before they make the jump into the SEC in 2024.

Oklahoma’s 2023 campaign will begin Sept. 2 as the Sooners take on Arkansas State.
