Oklahoma was driving on its first offensive possession of Saturday’s game against Kent State when Sooners wide receiver Keontez Lewis smashed against the brick wall that lines the back end of the end zone at Memorial Stadium in Norman.

On a first-down play from the Kent State 30-yard line, Oklahoma quarterback Michael Hawkins Jr. threw a pass that was designed to be a touchdown but instead sailed long, which Lewis followed through the back of the end zone. Lewis’ momentum carried him too far and he slammed against the brick wall with 10:37 left in the opening quarter.

Here is the video of the play, after which Lewis was carted off the field:

Lewis was surrounded by his stunned teammates as he was carted off the field:

No. 5 Oklahoma scored a touchdown on the drive in which Lewis was injured and took a 10-0 lead after the first quarter. But obviously there were a lot of thoughts about the status of Lewis, who had 17 catches for 210 yards and 2 touchdowns this season through 4 games coming into Saturday.

The 4-0 Sooners were trying to stay undefeated against the MAC opponent while they stepped out of conference for Week 6.
