The Oklahoma Sooners have shaken things up with their coaching staff after a disappointing 4-3 start. It was reported earlier on Sunday that offensive coordinator Seth Littrell has been fired.
It’s since been reported that co-OC Joe Jon Finley will take over as the new play-caller for the Sooners, according to a report from ESPN’s Pete Thamel. Former Duke OC Kevin Johns will also reportedly have a “significant role in the offense.” Johns had been an offensive analyst but will now coach the team’s QBs.
Johns spent the previous 2 seasons as the OC/QB coach for the Blue Devils. The coach helped Riley Leonard have his best collegiate season in 2022. Now, the Sooners are hoping the coach can help Jackson Arnold regain his confidence.
Johns will coach Oklahoma’s quarterbacks, as he’s been an analyst on staff this season since coming over from Duke.

The Sooners are hoping these mid-season changes will help light a spark. The Sooners are No. 128 in the nation in total offense, N0. 114 rushing offense, No. 116 passing offense, and the No. 107 scoring offense. The team has mustered just 12 points over the last 2 SEC games and recently made the decision to go back to Arnold.
Arnold began the season as the starter but was benched during the Tennessee game. Michael Hawkins Jr. struggled during his time as the starter, though, and the team switched back to Arnold during Week 8.
In Week 9, the Sooners will travel to Oxford to take on No. 18 Ole Miss. The Sooners and Rebels will kick off from Vaught-Hemingway Stadium on Saturday at Noon ET.
