Ole Miss defensive coordinator Pete Golding has signed an extension with the Rebels, according to a report from the Clarion Ledger.

Golding has done a fantastic job since joining Lane Kiffin’s staff in 2023. From a scoring standpoint, last year was one of the best defenses in the history of Ole Miss football. The Rebels were 2nd in the country by allowing only 14.4 PPG.

They also were 2nd in the country in rushing yards allowed per game (80.5), which is the fewest allowed in a season at Ole Miss since 1966.

That type of performance has earned him a raise, as he will now make $2.55 million this year, which will make him the highest-paid assistant in the SEC. He is also the 2nd highest paid assistant in all of college football, trailing Penn State DC Jim Knowles, who makes $3.1 million.

The Rebels will have a new-look defense his year, as they lost many of the key players on that side of the ball. The front-seven had four guys selected in the 2025 NFL Draft, led by defensive tackle Walter Nolen III who went 16th to the Arizona Cardinals.

With the raise in pay comes an obvious raise in expectations from the fans. The Rebels kick off the 2025 season on Aug. 30 when they host the Georgia State Panthers, and fans will want to see the same dominant defense they did last year.
