Ole Miss quarterback Austin Simmons is not expected to start against Arkansas on Saturday night, according to a report.
That news was first shared by On3’s Ben Garrett on Saturday afternoon, although other outlets reported on Simmons’ status earlier in the day. ESPN’s Pete Thamel said Simmons would be a game-time decision on Saturday morning.
Simmons was not listed on the official SEC availability report on Friday night, so this is a bit of a surprise. He had been listed as probable by Ole Miss earlier in the week.
Simmons appeared to suffer a lower-body injury against Kentucky last week and was replaced by Trinidad Chambliss. If Simmons does miss this game against the Razorbacks, Chambliss is expected to get the start.
The betting markets have reacted to this news sharply. After being favored by as many as 7.5 points earlier in the week, that number has dropped to 5 as of Saturday afternoon at most sports betting apps.
