Ole Miss football: Predicting the Rebels’ final record in 2023

It’s been a solid season thus far for Ole Miss. Besides a slip up against Alabama, the Rebels have been perfect and have even notched a signature win over LSU.

Ole Miss fans know that a hot start does not mean a hot finish. Last season, the Rebels were 8-1 heading into November, but a late collapse saw Ole Miss lose all of its games in November and its bowl game.

This Rebels’ team seems like it will fare better late in the season, but only time will tell.

With 5 games left in the regular season, here’s how the Rebels will finish the 2023 season.

Week 9: vs. Vanderbilt

Skinny: Vanderbilt hasn’t won a game since Week 2 against Alabama A&M, and the Commodores have looked rough during their 6-game losing streak. Vanderbilt is coming off the bye week, but before that it faced a demoralizing loss at home against Georgia.

Vanderbilt’s season has been defined by its horrendous defense, which has given up more than 35 points in each of the last 6 games. And that poor defense won’t fare well against Ole Miss’ electric offense, that has been putting up big numbers every game.

Ole Miss shouldn’t have any trouble against the Commodores next week at home and the Rebels will cruise to their seventh win of the season.

Prediction: Ole Miss 45, Vanderbilt 14

Week 10: vs. Texas A&M

Skinny: The Aggies have had their moments this season, but they have proved multiple times that they can’t take care of business against big opponents. Games against Miami, Alabama and Tennessee are the examples. Texas A&M is getting close to contending as a top team in the SEC, but it doesn’t have what it takes this season.

Last year, the Aggies played Ole Miss close but ultimately couldn’t get passed the Rebels as Ole Miss won 31-28.

Fortunately for Texas A&M, it should come into this game with some confidence and momentum after what should be an easy win over South Carolina. That will help the Aggies some, but it won’t be enough to take down Ole Miss.

The Rebels have been great at home this season, and that will continue against Texas A&M as the Rebels look to stay in the race for the SEC West.

Prediction: Ole Miss 35, Texas A&M 24

Week 11: vs. Georgia

Skinny: This game will be one of the biggest of the season for Ole Miss.

The Bulldogs are still the powerhouse of the SEC, even if they might not have the dominant team it had last season. Georgia has its sites set on another national championship, and the Bulldogs don’t want a slip up against Ole Miss to keep them from that goal.

If everything goes as planned, Georgia should come into the game undefeated and riding a wave of confidence. The Bulldogs have a tough game against Missouri ahead of the Ole Miss game, but they should be able to take care of business.

If Ole Miss can upset Georgia, it could be the win it needs to get it in a place to reach the SEC Championship. Of course, the Rebels will need some help from other teams as Alabama will likely still be in the driver’s seat, but anything can happen.

Ole Miss’ offense will need to be its usual high-powered self, but the Rebels will also need some help from their defense, which has struggled for much of the season.

Prediction: Ole Miss 28, Georgia 38

Week 12: vs. UL Monroe

Skinny: UL Monroe has put together some solid seasons in the Sun Belt, but unfortunately for the Warhawks, this year isn’t one of them. UL Monroe is on a 5-game losing steak, sitting at 2-5 on the year.

This game should give Ole Miss no issues as they look to close out the season on a high note, and a dominant performance would give the Rebels some confidence heading into the final game of the season against Mississippi State.

Prediction: Ole Miss 64, UL Monroe 7

Week 13: vs. Mississippi State

Skinny: The Egg Bowl is one of the best rivalries in the SEC and almost always produces a fun game. Last season, Mississippi State won a narrow 24-22 game.

But with Mississippi State’s struggles this season, the Bulldogs likely don’t stand a chance in this one. It’s a rebuilding year for Mississippi State under new coach Zach Arnett, and the Bulldogs have looked lackluster through the first half of the season. They squeezed out a narrow win over Arkansas on Saturday, but the Razorbacks are in a similar boat as Mississippi State.

Barring any disaster, Ole Miss should win this game easily and close out the season with a dominant win.

Prediction: Ole Miss 42, Mississippi State 14

Final prediction … 10-2

Ole Miss will gets its second 10-win season under Lane Kiffin, winning all the games it’s supposed to and possibly landing a New Years 6 Bowl.
