Apparently Jay Johnson really wants to play for Ole Miss and head coach Hugh Freeze.

After committing to the Rebels out of high school at the end of the 2014 season, Johnson failed to qualify in Oxford and had to go to junior college. Now with his JUCO career nearing an end, the 6-foot-4, 230-pound Johnson has once again decided to pledge to Ole Miss.

Sunday, Johnson discussed his long-time desire to join the Rebels with Chuck Rounsaville of OM Spirit:

“It’s been a long time coming,” Johnson said. “I never lost faith in getting to Ole Miss. Saturday I went up there to meet with coach (Hugh) Freeze… He’s going to give me a chance to be a part of their family in December. That’s what I always wanted.”

Coming out of Bruce, Miss., Johnson was ranked as one of the state’s Dandy Dozen, given annually to the state’s best high school prospects. Johnson hopes to start his career in Oxford as an early enrollee.

With Johnson’s commitment, the Rebels now have 11 total commitments for the 2017 recruiting class.
