Ole Miss legend Billy Mustin dies

Ole Miss legend Billy Mustin, a star halfback for the Rebels from 1946 to 1949, died at the age of 87 on Monday.

Mustin, who was inducted into the Ole Miss Sports Hall of Fame in 1987, also served as an assistant football coach and worked on the Loyalty Foundation. With the foundation, he was an assistant director for two years and the director for 10 years.

In his senior season in 1949, Mustin had 555 yards from scrimmage on 91 carries for a 6.1-yard average, scoring 6 TDs.

Mustin graduated from the school in 1950 after earning his Bachelor of Science degree in physical education. Oxford Memorial Cemetery will be the site of a graveside service that will be held for him this Thursday with Rev. Robert Allen officiating.
