When former Oregon State LB Rommel Mageo decided to play for Ole Miss as a graduate transfer this season, he knew he’d be playing in some big-time games.
According to Scout.com, the chance to play games like this Saturday’s matchup against No. 1 Alabama are the reason Mageo came to Ole Miss:
“I’m excited. This type of game is why I came here. I looked at the schedule for this year when I was deciding where to go and saw all these challenges and I said that’s for me,” he explained. “I’m not going to prepare any differently than I prepare for any game, but I know this is the number one team in the nation and I know we all have to bring our A-game into it.”
Mageo compared the Tide to a Pac-12 powerhouse he faced many times during his Oregon State career:
“They remind me a lot of Stanford in the Pac 12,” he said. “They are physical and disciplined. The Stanford OL are like that. Alabama runs the ball right at you and they throw a lot of deep balls. They have big running backs who can run around you or probably through you if you aren’t tuned in. We have to hit them as hard as they hit us, or harder.
“Their young quarterback, we have to take his confidence away. We have to hit him and rattle him and get to him.”
Mageo hopes to be a part of a third-straight Ole Miss upset of Alabama on Saturday afternoon. The Week 3 matchup is scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m. Central time and can be seen on CBS.
