The drama surrounding the Lane Kiffin Sweepstakes is reaching the boiling point, as 247Sports reported Sunday that the Rebels players are now getting involved in the process.
Neal McCready reports that members of the Ole Miss leadership counsel was set to confront Kiffin at his office in the Manning Center on Sunday morning and deliver their displeasure to their 6th-year head caoch.
McCready continued by reporting that Ole Miss officials are trying to decide between Joe Judge or Pete Golding serving as an interim coach should Kiffin follow through and depart immediately for the LSU Tigers opening.
Kiffin reportedly has a 7-year contract on the table from LSU that is worth more than $12 million annually. The 50-year-old coach met with Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carter and Ole Miss chancellor Glenn Boyce on Saturday night to discuss his future.
Kiffin is 55-19 in his Ole Miss tenure, including the program’s first 11-win regular season in history in 2025. The Rebels are on the cusp of earning a College Football Playoff berth, though seeding for that entry into the 12-team field could be compromised should Kiffin depart for LSU. Kiffin is 116-53 in his collegiate coaching career, with stops at Florida Atlantic, USC and Tennessee before Oxford.
