The No. 17 Ole Miss Rebels have been on a tear through the first couple of weeks of the 2025 college football season, and their dynamic offense has naturally been a big piece of their early success.
The run game in particular has been elite for the Rebels, and former Missouri tailback Kewan Lacy has been the driving force for Lane Kiffin’s electric system on the ground.
Lacy, who came over to Ole Miss via the transfer portal this past offseason, took the starting running back position for the Rebels in fall camp and has immediately become one of the best ball carriers in the nation.
This early success has led ESPN analyst Max Olson to include Lacy on his list of the top 10 most impactful transfer portal players through the first two weeks of the new season. Here’s an excerpt of Olson’s analysis:
Lacy was exactly what the Rebels needed. The SEC’s leading rusher has put up 246 rushing yards and four TDs with back-to-back 100-yard games, and his 21 forced missed tackles rank third most among FBS backs, according to ESPN Research. He turned a career-high 28 carries into 138 yards to beat Kentucky on Saturday.
Lacy has put himself into immediate contention for the Doak Walker Award, and the Rebs will be relying on him to maintain his elite early form as SEC play continues to heat up.

If he can continue being the elite force on the ground he has been for Ole Miss thus far, then he could also end up leading the Rebels to their first-ever College Football Playoff appearance.
