Ole Miss QB Austin Simmons exits game vs. Kentucky late with injury
Ole Miss quarterback Austin Simmons had to be helped off the field late in the fourth quarter against Kentucky on Saturday after appearing to pick up a lower-body injury.
Facing a third-and-7 from the Ole Miss 23, Simmons ran a quarterback keeper into a pile of bodies for a 2-yard gain. He stayed down on the field after the play and was quickly tended to by trainers. Simmons was helped off the field while struggling to put any weight on his left leg.
At the time of his exit, Ole Miss led Kentucky 27-20. Simmons completed 13 of his 24 pass attempts for 235 yards. He had a rushing touchdown but also threw 2 interceptions.
After the Ole Miss defense forced a turnover on downs and gave the ball back to the offense, Simmons looked like he might take the field again. He attempted several warm-up throws and had his helmet with him, but it was backup quarterback Trinidad Chambliss — a transfer from Ferris State — that led the offense onto the field.
Chambliss played in 25 games with 16 starts across 3 seasons at D2 Ferris State. He led the Bulldogs to a national title in 2024.
The Rebels play Arkansas next Saturday at home.
