Lane Kiffin asked how many seniors plan to return for Ole Miss next season: ‘Almost all of them are coming back’
Just when it looked like the momentum surrounding Lane Kiffin’s Ole Miss program couldn’t get any hotter, the Rebels coach dropped a hint of some upcoming news down in Oxford.
With his team approaching its first bowl game in several years, the Rebels last made the postseason during the 2015 season, Kiffin was asked if he’s started to have discussions with any of his seniors regarding a potential return in 2021.
If you were unaware, the NCAA has given all players a free season of eligibility in 2020, meaning even seniors can return in 2021. Every senior that decides to return for an extra season will not count against the 85-man scholarship limit in 2021.
“We started that weeks ago,” Kiffin said on Wednesday. “Really, first just to get an idea of whether they were coming back or going and the ones that were kinda in between, to recruit them.
“As of now, almost all of them are coming back. Almost all of them were coming back when we first met with them. I think they like the excitement and the direction of the program and want to be a part of it for another year.”
If you missed it, senior linebacker Lakia Henry has already publicly announced his intention to return, but it sounds like several more upperclassmen will be joining him in Oxford next fall.
