Ole Miss running back Kewan Lacy will be back in Oxford for the 2026 campaign.

The program announced that news on Tuesday morning, adding Lacy to a growing list of retentions for the Rebels as they look to build out their roster in 2026.

Lacy was one of college football’s top running backs in 2025 and is a big reason why the Rebels are still alive in the College Football Playoff. Entering the semifinal round, Lacy has rushed for 1,464 yards and 23 touchdowns so far this season.

Lacy is only a true sophomore, so he would not have been able to enter the 2026 NFL Draft. However, Lacy would have garnered significant transfer portal interest from a variety of top programs had he decided to look elsewhere for 2026.

Instead, Lacy will be among the key returners for an Ole Miss offense that will likely look much different next season. The Rebels have lost numerous offensive assistant coaches to LSU and may not have quarterback Trinidad Chambliss under center, pending an NCAA waiver. Among Ole Miss’s out-going coaches is running back Kevin Smith, who has agreed to join Lane Kiffin‘s staff in Baton Rouge.

Lacy and the Rebels will face Miami in the semifinals of the College Football Playoff on Thursday night.
