Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss will make his second FBS start on Saturday when the 13th-ranked Rebels host Tulane.
On3’s Chris Low reported Thursday night that Chambliss is expected to get the nod for Ole Miss while Austin Simmons continues to nurse an ankle injury. Simmons opened the season as the starter but was injured in the Kentucky game and looked noticeably hobbled in his limited action against Arkansas.
Chambliss, a national champion at D2 Ferris State, was excellent in his first start for the Rebels. In the 41-35 win over Arkansas last week, he completed 21 of his 29 pass attempts for 353 yards and a touchdown.
He also ran 15 times for 62 yards and 2 scores.
Chambliss was a first-team All-American last season at Ferris State, where he threw for 2,901 yards and 26 touchdowns while also rushing for 1,019 and 25 touchdowns on the ground. He finished third in voting for the Harlon Hill Trophy, which is given annually to the D2 player of the year.
As the game against Tulane is not a conference game, Ole Miss is not required to produce an availability report.
Kickoff on Saturday is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN. The Rebels (3-0) are a 12.5-point favorite over the Green Wave (3-0), per BetMGM.
The Rebels host No. 3 LSU on Sept. 27 before a bye week.
