Ole Miss to unveil new on-field Landshark mascot at Meet the Rebels Day on Saturday

Rebel the Bear has retired, but his successor will be be unveiled later this week.
Ole Miss has announced that it plans to reveal its new on-field mascot at Meet the Rebels Day at the Manning Center on Saturday. Last fall, the school decided to change its mascot to a Landshark, a term that has been used to describe the football team’s defensive unit for the past decade.
While the on-field mascot will certainly be a Landshark, it is unknown what exactly it will look like.
Defensive players have embraced the Landshark nickname, which dates back to 2008, by doing a “Fins Up” celebration after big plays, putting a hand to their forehead in the shape of a shark fin.
Meet the Rebels Day begins at 1 p.m. CT and concludes at 3 p.m. In addition to the mascot unveiling, fans will have the opportunity to meet players and get autographs.
Rebel the Bear, who won a fan vote to become Ole Miss’ mascot in 2010, spent eight years as the Rebels’ on-field mascot.
