Nick Saban explains why Trevon Diggs will only play defense this fall

As a freshman, Trevon Diggs spent his first Alabama fall camp cross-training, working at both cornerback and wide receiver. This year, Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban wants to focus on developing Diggs at one position, cornerback.
“We’re really focused on trying to develop him as a corner on our team,” Saban said, per AL.com’s Matt Zenitz. “… We really feel good about the young receivers we have, so we’re giving them as many reps as we can, and hopefully at some point this season they’ll be able to make a contribution. But I think right now Trevon is focused on one thing, which I think is important, especially with young players, to define a role so that they can be effective in that role.”
A 4-star recruit out of Rockville, Md., Diggs played on offense, defense and special teams as a freshman. He had 11 receptions for 88 yards, including a five-yard touchdown against Mississippi State. As a returner, he had seven kickoff returns for 166 yards, including a long of 41 yards and 13 punt returns for 130 yards. On defense last season, Diggs made five total tackles and forced one fumble.
