Mark Stoops was not happy after Kentucky’s first scrimmage last Saturday. A week made a major difference.

Stoops was much more pleased after the Wildcats’ second scrimmage on Saturday, especially with the offense, as he praised their performance, unlike a week ago.

“Very good work today,” Stoops told the media. “Overall very pleased with the work that got done, in particular offensively. I thought we really had a really good mentality about us today. Really mixed it up well, ran the ball, threw it, play action. They did a lot of things good and had a great urgency and did a really good job.”

Stoops was not ready to name who will be the team’s starting quarterback. The competition is currently between sophomores Terry Wilson and Gunnar Hoak.

“We’re very close on the snaps. I think we’re about dead even with Terry and Gunnar,” Stoops told the media. “We have to look at this film. They both did some good things today. The offense in general, moved the ball pretty good.”

Stoops alluded that the team will make a quarterback decision around Aug. 27, the Monday of the first game week. The Wildcats open the season against Central Michigan on Sept. 1.

Although Stoops was pleased overall, he said the team is getting thin at some defensive positions due to injuries.
