The worlds of college football and the Grateful Dead are colliding this fall in Eugene, Oregon.

On Wednesday, Oregon dropped a special video calling on fans to wear tie-dye to the Ducks’ Oct. 25 home game against Wisconsin. The short video features press clippings and ticket stubs from the Dead’s stops at Autzen Stadium over the years, including a photo of the late Bill Walton. The clip is set to the band’s tune “Althea” and ends on a still of an Oregon-themed stealie.

The 60th anniversary of the Grateful Dead is being celebrated in San Francisco, the band’s birthplace, from Friday to Sunday with 3 concerts from Dead & Company at Golden Gate Park with special guests Billy Strings, Sturgill Simpson and Trey Anastasio. The offshoot band features original Grateful Dead members Bob Weir and Mickey Hart joined by John Mayer, Oteil Burbridge, Jeff Chimenti and Jay Lane.

Wednesday’s announcement has many fans curious about the Ducks’ uniform for the game. UO has been known for some wild alternate threads, but something tie-dye or Dead-themed would be truly far-out for a college football Saturday.

Some fans may also be wondering if Dead & Company might be planning a Eugene show. The band stopped touring in 2023, but still plays occasional shows such as Golden Gate Park, a Las Vegas Sphere residency and destination festivals.
