Oregon was reportedly turned down by former SEC assistant before hiring Dan Lanning
Dan Lanning will be Oregon’s head football coach in 2022.
News broke Saturday that the Ducks would be hiring the Georgia defensive coordinator to replace Mario Cristobal, who is leaving Oregon after 4 seasons to replace Manny Diaz at Miami
It appears, however, that Lanning wasn’t Oregon’s top choice.
On Sunday, Oregonian columnist John Canzano reported that the Ducks had been tuned down by Cal head coach Justin Wilcox.

Wilcox just completed his 5th season with the Bears and has a modest overall record of 26-28.
But the 45-year-old played defensive back for the Ducks and is a Eugene native.
Wilcox also was previously an assistant coach at Tennessee, along with stops at Washington, USC, and Wisconsin.
