Running back recruit Tate Myre, who was one of 4 Oxford High School (Michigan) students killed during a Nov. 30 shooting, has been awarded honorary 5-star status by 247Sports.

Myre was a class of 2023 prospect who was receiving recruiting interest from in-state powers Michigan State and Michigan, along with several other programs in the Midwest.

During December’s early signing period for high school football players, Michigan State head coach Mel Tucker announced Myre as an honorary member of the Spartans’ recruiting class.

Said Tucker in a video that addressed the decision and the tragic loss, “Tate Myre had an unmatched work ethic, athleticism and love for his teammates. He had a passion to one day play for Michigan State. This passion was paired with an unstoppable drive and follow through to get there. Tate’s consistency on and off the football field elevated everyone who knew him.”

Of its decision to honor Myre, 247Sports said, “The five stars will be reflected on Myre’s profile for perpetuity, though it won’t be reflected in 2023 player rankings or on Michigan State’s team rankings.”
